CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA - Sun International announced that the $204 million (R1.56-billion) Grand West Casino and Entertainment World will open December 19, 2000.
Located in the Goodwood area, north of Mother City in South Africa, Grand West Casino and Entertainment World is one of the largest ever made in the Western Cape and is expected to have major spin-offs for tourism and the local economy.
There are two world-class hotels being built at Grand West Casino and Entertainment World, catering for both the luxury and budget traveler. The 40-room, 4-star, full-service Grand Hotel is a recreation of the historic establishment, which used to grace Adderly Street. Its historic façade recreates an era long since forgotten in the modern metropolis of 21st Century Cape Town. The more affordable City Lodge features 120 rooms and is modeled on a Cape-Dutch homestead, complete with a traditional gable.
The naval-themed casino will feature 1,750 slot machines with denominations from as little as 25c to R100, 66 tables with American Roulette, Blackjack, Stud Poker and Punto Banco, and cashless slot machines that accepts smart-cards.
